MobiGo is the preschoolers' hand-held game system with the touch screen which has appeared in stores, adverts and children's homes since last summer, it is recommended for children from aged three to eight years old. Some of the games available are recommended for children over four-years-old, this article only looks at games suitable for the youngest players.
The software cartridges sell for £17 in the UK and $20 US dollars. To date the software packages are all related to well known characters from cinema, TV and children's books, such as Shrek, Dora and the Mr. Men.
MobiGo Educational Video Games for Young Children
Each cartridge contains several games, usually 5 or 6, which can be played in any order and there are various levels of difficulty to choose from.. They involve intuitive touch screen controls or using the key board. The Mobigo games assist learning through play with games which involve:
- letter recognition
- learning colours and shapes
- differentiating between bigger and smaller
- basic spelling
- rhyme
- music
- counting
- logic
- memory
- creativity
The games are fairly short and repetitive which does sound tedious to parents but children of this age enjoy doing the same thing over and over again, so Mobigo is getting very positive reviews from families with very young children.
Cartridges Suitable for Toddlers & 3-Year-Old KidsThere are currently seven cartridges available with an age guide of 3+ and more MobiGo games for older children aged 4+.Those for three year olds are listed below.
- Dora The Explorer Twins Day contains five separate games and introduces basic Spanish.
- Sesame Street Elmo & Abby Nature Explorers includes planting plants, finding insects and exploring habitats.
- Disney Princess features Belle and Cinderella making clothes and fixing jewellery.
- Marvel Super Hero Squad Sports Heroes involves the heroes competing with the villains in a quest to save the world. Features Iron Man, the Hulk, the Silver Surfer, Thor, Wolverine and Hawkeye.
- Disney Tangled features Rapunzel who has escaped from the tower.
- Disney Pixar Toy Story 3 has six games featuring characters from the film.
- Mr. Men & Little Miss Adventures in Dillydale includes Mr Happy and Little Miss Sunshine and other characters with the world to explore.
Mobigo Software for Girls or Boys Aged 3+
The Disney Games Tangled and Princess are obviously more likely to appeal to girls whereas super Hero Squad and Toy Story will be more attractive to boys. Despite being a female character Dora the Explorer has proved to be popular among preschool boys as well as girls, Sesame Street games and the Mr. Men are also appealing for both girls and boys.
